GLENDALE, CALIFORNIA
AMERICANA AT BRAND is a Caruso Affiliated mixed-use lifestyle center located in Glendale, California. The 16-acre retail and entertainment destination combines upscale shops, restaurants, residences and a 2.2 acre park. Elkus Manfredi Architects created a range of diverse and sophisticated building styles to which unique identity (Signage & Graphics) were integrated into the various structures and storefronts. Much of the signage required large scale proportions to compliment the urban scale of buildings including a primary roof mounted sign which serves as the principal identifier for the project. Special lighting and animation in key signage elements serve to add interest and discovery at night. The logo, extracted from a bronze sculpture situated in the parks’ fountain is a reoccurring icon found in many of the signs. The project utilizes a wide range of materials from cast glass, to incised stone, to formed and cast metals. The environmental graphics program was successfully created, built, and installed through close collaboration with the developer (Caruso Affiliated) and an unwavering eye to achieving this Owner’s Vision, style, and taste for perfection.
