Bella Terra

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIFORNIA
BELLA TERRA, Phase One is a 1.5m + plus square foot mixed-use renovation located in Huntington Beach, California. The mall consists of a few large retail anchors in filled with numerous majors, a lifestyle Village with specialty shops and restaurants, theatre, and outdoor amphitheater. The architectural ‘Italian Village’ theme for the project was conceived by the Jerde Partnership Inc., and later developed by Perkowitz & Ruth Architects. The most basic aspects surrounding the economic and industrial history of Huntington Beach are celebrated in the various signs and graphics ranging in materials from decorative hand made and mosaic tile, cut stone, to cast and decorative metals. The migratory MONARCH Butterfly was chosen as the symbol (logo) for Bella Terra and can be found in unique applications ranging from hardscape to street names (Via Farfalla). Wayfinding components integrate European lighting elements (Neri) to further weave in the village-like character. A 110 foot plus tower bearing the name Bella Terra and visible from the 405 freeway serves as the principal identifier/landmark to this retail/office destination. Backlit retail content panels attached to the face of the Parking Garage are visible 24/7 along the freeway edge and provide information otherwise blocked from the site line into the retail piece/component.
